Jay DeChesere’s architectural curriculum at Kentucky included token art courses, so after 45 yrs of architecture, he now focuses on art as a passion. Technology in the 1960’s required development of skills in perspective, pen & ink, washes and pencil to depict design concepts. These abilities became invaluable in his current art pursuits. Since seriously beginning to paint 5 yrs ago, DeChesere has been juried into over 22 shows, has received 17 awards on local and state levels and has had work selected for two major art publications as well as others locally. He has been a part of three two-person shows, one solo show, and a member of a coop gallery in Oriental, NC. Works are currently displayed in local venues and in one other state shows.
His watercolor, pastel and pen and ink work includes figurative, nautical, architectural, landscape and wildlife. DeChesere feels that “it is important for a painting to express an emotion through its subject, composition and mood.”
