Artist’s Statement

After receiving his Bachelor and Master Degrees in Fine Arts from the University of Alabama, Don Moore did additional studies in Art History at the University of Georgia and the Art Student’s League, NY. He taught first at Coker College in SC and then at Mitchell Community College in NC. He retired in 2004 after 32 years as Program Coordinator.

Retirement meant a new phase of life for Moore. He finds that being a full time artist is totally different from the world of Academia. Moore joined a figure drawing group first in Hickory and then in Winston-Salem. At the same time he joined the Associated Artists of Winston-Salem. Since then he has been juried into numerous state and national jury shows and has won awards with his figure drawings and figurative paintings. In a brief period Moore’s paintings have been exhibited in galleries at Wake Forest University, Baptist Hospital, and Forsyth College. His work has been represented by the Realis Gallery of Winston-Salem and Phoenix Gallery, Taylorsville, NC.
