Well, Kim Werfel will be teaching a one day workshop at Central Carolina Community College in Chatham County, Pittsboro Campus Bldg 042 MPR on Saturday, September 20th, 2014 from 10 am – 4:30 pm. You’ll explore soft pastels in this workshop for new or seasoned students. A review of materials will follow a step by step class demo to help you create your own pastel painting. Some knowledge of drawing and painting is helpful. Ask for a supply list when you register.

Pastel Classes by Kim Werfel – Registration OPEN for Fall 2014

72-me-at-Carrboro-Arts-Center-Registration is now open for upcoming classes in Chapel Hill’s Seymour Center by Kim Werfel.

Located at 2551 Homestead Rd., Chapel Hill, NC 27516, this Pastel Class will have students of varying ability and will run Mondays from September 8 – Oct. 6th, from 1 – 3 pm. The cost is $75.

Beginners will work on photos with Kim while more advanced students will work on their own independent projects with her guidance.

Kim Casebeer — 3 day workshop in Cashiers, July 11-13, 2014

She will teach plein air – pastel, oil and acrylic students are welcome. Karen Weihs is the contact for registration and she also has hints for lodging. This workshop is held in conjunction with the Plein Air Art Festival and Arts on the Green at The Village Green, Cashiers, North Carolina.

This course is for the intermediate to advanced pastel student who wants critiques as they work on their own subject matter. Students will explore different techniques in finding their own style with guidance from the instructor. Elements and principles of design are kept in mind as students learn to apply compositional rules to their work for maximum results. Classes start with group critiques and discussions with the rest of the class time working with individual help through class. Spending time working outside of class will be necessary.

Basic understanding of pastels or Intro to Pastel Painting is required. This class is not for beginners.

6th Annual National 2D Competition in Fayetteville, NC

Cape Fear Studios in Fayetteville NC is sponsoring the 6th Annual National 2D Competition. Juror Barbara Jaenicke will present a 3 hour pastel demonstration in conjunction with the show opening on June 27th, 2014. The deadline for entries is May 6th. Cape Fear Studios, Inc. (CFS) is a nonprofit arts organization in historic downtown Fayetteville. Their mission is to involve, educate, and enrich Cumberland County and surrounding communities with the opportunity to create and freely view art.

Workshop Opportunity – Cape Fear Studios, 148 Maxwell Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301

Come spend some fact-filled, hours with Luana Luconi Winner as she navigates through students’ most vexing issues with paint. All levels of student will benefit from Luana’s demos, lectures, critiques, and hands on instruction.   The first day will include drawing, proportion, color mixing exercises, and painting.  Portrait instruction will be the main focus of the workshop, but a still life will be offered for those who would rather devote time to more brilliant color.  During Day 1 lunch period, students should bring lunch and some finished or in-progress artwork of any medium or subject matter for critique.  The second day students may choose to work from a live model or a still life.  The working lunch period on Day 2 will be a question and answer session on all things art and the business of art. www.WinnerStudios.com    Please sign up at Cape Fear Studios or contact Ellen Olson Brooks, ED    (brooksel@mindspring.com)  910-433-2986
