Call for Entries: Davidson Co. Community College Spring Show 2011

Slides/cds of original artwork in all media are now being accepted for the Spring Show at DCCC. Submission deadline is: November 15. The works will be exhibited in the Mendenhall Building, DCCC, Lexington, NC from January 11 to May 6, 2011. Reception: January 11, 4-6 pm.

Submission Information:
Only original work is accepted, in all styles of 2-D and 3-D media. No nudes or imagery with overt religious or sociopolitical themes will be considered. Eight to twelve artists are selected for each show, with 5-12 pieces per artist.

Calendar Information:
Work will be installed the week of January 4th, 2011. Weekend deliveries are not possible. The exhibitions coordinator will be there to guide installation. Artists must bring help if the works are too large to be handled by one person. The show will open with a reception on January 11, 4-6 pm. Art must hang the duration of the show and must be picked up at the end of the show on May 6.

Other Specifics:
Artists must hand deliver and install their own work. Artwork will be insured by the college. There are no fees to enter. Not for sale work is acceptable. In the event of a sale, the college will receive 25% commission. The college is responsible for collection of sales tax. The site will provide a color postcard with the work of one artist selected for this honor. The college will also provide a reception.

To enter, please submit by November 15, 2010:
A cover letter, resume, and any additional materials. 10-20 images of available works, numbered and labeled. Include title, media, size and price with each image. SASE with postage for return of materials.

May 14 – Zoom demo with Janet Burgess

The vivacious and indomitable Janet Burgess will present the next episode in our Empowerment Series.  Ms Burgess has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Carolina University. She graduated Cum Laude with a double major in Art and Spanish. She also earned a Master of Arts degree from Columbia University in New York City with a major in painting and drawing. Her life has been – and is – focused on creativity. An award-winning artist, she has demonstrated her ability to utilize the creativity within herself. Ms Burgess will speak from the point of view that one’s life is best fulfilled if everything we do is characterized by originality of thought and execution.
