A 1986 graduate of East Carolina University, Stanford spent the first 15 years of his professional career as a freelance illustrator. He designed and created visuals for clients across the country such as Entrepreneur Magazine, the Texas Restaurant Association, The Chicago Tribune, Carolinas Medical Center and others. He also spent 6 years as an art director with an advertising agency in Charlotte, NC. before once again returning to self employment.

After spending years hiking and exploring through the appalachian mountains, Stanford began painting the numerous scenes he discovered and photographed.
