Herbert N. Slapo began painting in 1977, studying with his twin brother Daniel, Joe Hing Lowe, and Kenneth Van Rensselaer in New York.

A full member of the Pastel Society of America and President of the Pastel Society of North Carolina, he now teaches at the Carrboro ArtsCenter and the Chapel Hill Senior Center.

A resident of North Carolina since 1993, he enjoys painting cloudscapes, portraits, horses, landscapes, and florals. His work is in public and private collections in the United States and Canada.
